HSG Hosts Economic Session in New York

H.S. Grace & Company, Inc. sponsored its third annual Mid Year Economic & Governance Review in New York on September 22, 2011. Dr. Robert Aliber, Professor Emeritus of the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, presented a somewhat guarded view on the outlook for the world economy. Dr. Aliber has consulted with The World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

The Good, Bad and Ugly of Having a CFO as a Board Member

Jeffrey E. Curtiss discussed the pros and cons of chief financial officers as members of a company’s board in an address to the Austin chapter of Financial Executives International on March 22. Jeff is a director and audit committee chair of KBR, Inc. and previously served as CFO for Service Corporation International and Browning-Ferris Industries.

 
Corporate Governance: Dilemmas & Challenges
HSG President H. Stephen Grace Jr., Ph.D., and Jeffrey E. Curtiss spoke at the SMU Corporate Directors’ Institute on March 24. Stephen discussed modern developments in corporate governance and Jeff reviewed the role of the audit chair.
 
Liquidating Trustee
HSG Board of Advisors member Martin G. Mand recently completed serving as the court-appointed liquidating trustee in connection with a shareholder dispute before the Delaware Chancery Court where Marty had to maximize value for the shareholders while getting rid of the company. Marty has also served as a Chancery Court appointed Custodian in other disputes before the Court.
